Building on over 2000 visitors to the first lighting extravaganza, the Secret Light Garden team have even more ambitious designs and concepts for this year’s dazzling event.
Gareth Dean from the SLG lighting team says, “The biggest challenge for us this time is to make Secret Light Garden more stimulating, more entertaining and even more beautiful than the 2010 show. Last year the audience had little to no expectations. It was a complete surprise to all that attended. This year we have had to work much harder in our design, so that our visitors have even more to experience than before.”
The stunning wooded grounds of Picton Castle, an estate near Haverfordwest, are enjoyed annually by thousands of daytime visitors who walk in the woodland and admire the beautifully kept plants, flowers and ancient trees. However, during the Secret Light Garden event there is a rare opportunity for visitors to experience the gardens in a completely new light.
New for this year is ‘Winter’- the story telling giant ogre, the ‘Poettree’ – a place to sit and listen, the wandering bubbling minstrel and ultra-violet ping-pong to name but a few. Besides all this, there will be the ‘Live Liquid Light Show’ using the castle as a giant projection screen.
Some of last year’s favourites are still in the show. The Pint sized plays are back but this time they have their own pint sized theatre. Musicians in a box make their return albeit with a new line up and the ‘Bizarre Bazaar’ is back with delicious foods, drinks and treats. In addition, a hand picked selection of local artists have been asked to display their amazing work in nooks and crannies all over the gardens to be discovered and contemplated.
Ashley Calvert, the SLG marketing manager said, “ Last years attendance demonstrates that this is an event not to be missed. Judging by the positive reaction from 2010, we are anticipating a bigger audience for this year’s event so book your tickets early.”
This event is for all the family. Doors open at 7pm and happenings finish at 11pm. (Last entry at 10pm.) This is an outdoor event so dress appropriately and don’t forget to bring your ‘lighty up gizmos’ to join in the fun.
