Volunteers needed to help at fairy tale castle
It is known throughout West Wales as the area’s finest stately home and has been called the jewel in Pembrokeshire’s crown.
Picton Castle and Gardens is a fairy tale castle with enchanting gardens, just a few miles from Haverfordwest. As well as being an important part of the county’s history it, it is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike and attracts thousands of visitors each year. Now Picton Castle is inviting local residents to take part in running it.
Dai Evans, Director of Picton Castle, said, “We are looking for volunteers to support us across all areas of the castle and gardens. You don’t need to be a history buff to help out. We are looking for volunteers who like meeting people and have good communication skills.
As well as the key role of castle tour guides, who help bring the castle to life by telling the fascinating stories of its history, we are also looking for computer literate volunteers (April to September) to help with our administration and to work alongside our shop and ticket kiosk teams. Other roles may involve customer care or marketing related activities.
In return for volunteering we can offer people the chance to develop or learn new skills and add something extra to their social life, or simply the opportunity to enjoy spending a few hours a week in a beautiful environment”
A regular time commitment will be required and full training will be given on site. Petrol expenses are paid and after 50 hours of attendance, volunteers will receive a free season ticket. This gives the holder free entry to the castle and gardens and free entry to the National Botanic Gardens, plus free entry to many of our popular events.
We are running an open day on February 27th from mid -day until 4pm in the Great Hall of the castle – tea and biscuits will be provided. The open days, will give people an opportunity to meet the team & find out more about the roles on offer.
