Picton Castle and Gardens

Father Christmas

With frost on the ground this morning, at last Winter is Coming…What does winter bring, apart from shorter days and heart warming stodgy pies and puddings? Father Christmas.. and he is coming to Picton soon! He has invited all the little people of Pembrokeshire and their families to come and visit him here in the Castle. To celebrate his visit we have created a whole day out for all the family. The Castle is full of Christmas cheer (chocolates) to welcome you. The fire will be lit in the Great Hall, there will be gifts from Father Christmas, never-mind if anyone has been naughty or nice! There will be a Christmas wonderland in the Galleries, with a chance to meet our magical toymaker, and elves digging for fairy dust in the magic mines. We also have Christmas crafts for children in the studio and Santa’s Trail in the gardens. It is not simply a visit to Father Christmas, but a whole Christmas family indulgence. The Owls will be here and there is no better time of year to meet Hedwig, the Snowy Owl. Father Christmas will be visiting on selected dates in December, check https://www.pictoncastle.co.uk/category/events for details!

Here are a few photos of our wonderful decorations and some happy visitors too.

Plant of the Week

This week’s plant is quite a beauty. The photos were taken on the 29th November 2019 and as you can see this lovely plant is still flowering strongly this late in the year. They do well in a sunny sheltered spot and should be hardy if planted early in the year to allow them to establish their roots before the winter. The plant featured here has spread to quite a few feet in size.
